It's important in my opinion to look yourself in the eyes when you are doing them, it seems to have a better effect. I know you might feel silly at first but trust me. You can do them in the bathroom mirror, or my go-to is the rearview mirror in my car, I can say them out loud and really feel them wholeheartedly.
